Preconditions: bondet pet
You need a pet you have bonded. This pet can be resurrected after death. To be honest you can also train a pet exactly how it is described here if it isn't bonded, but after a possible death of the pet all efforts are lost. So this is not advisable!

The use of it
Your pets can advance in level, through gathering experience points while fighting. Additional to their Skills, which can be trained Systematical they also have a step-based component, which can not be found elsewhere in Ultima-Online.

With this training you can not only train the skills of the pet directly (they rise passively while fighting), but, through spending ability points, you can also raise the abilities of the pet, which are usually not modifiable: The stats and resistances!

Experience points
When your pet fights, it gets experience points (XP) with every hit it lands on the enemy. The pet has, depending on the stats and resistances it has when starting the training, an minimum account of XP, which are needed to advance from level 1 to level 2. We call this amount of points basic-points N.
The amount of needed XP raises with every level by N. If you want your pet to advance from level m to level (m+1), you have to, while it is on level m, gather m*N XP.
So from level 1 to level m you need N*m*(m+1)/2 XP. For m=30, that is for advancing from first to for the time beeing the last level 30 you need 435*N XP. With a Hiryu for example this can be up to 15 millions of XP
Here a little table with all of it:
Thus a pet at level 25 needs 25*N XP, has already collected an amount varying between 300*N and 325*N XP and needs 4% more XP to advance than it needed for advancement from level 23 to level 24.

If you want to see, how many XP your pet has, just open the pull down menu of the pet and click on NPC Info.

Bild:PetPullDownMenu.png

Now there are opening two windows:

width=50% valign=top|
The Skill-Window
Bild:PetSkills.png

Here you can see and set up, what skills your pet already has mastered, how good it is in using them and which one it should continoue learning or even which one it should unlearn. There is a skillcap for pets also, so you might be forced to decide between your pet beeing good in magery or fighting. The skills are beeing raised, lowered ore locked just like the ones of your own character.

width=50% valign=top|
The XP-Window
Bild:PetEXP.png

Here you see the current level of your pet, the available abilitypoints and the needed XP for advancing to the next level and so on. If ability points are available, you see a red Gem in the window you can click on. Then the raising-window will open.

The Raising-Window
valign=top|
Bild:PetAbilityPoints.png

valign=top|
Bild:PetAbilityPointsFull.png

Here you can see, which attributes your pet has alredy unlocked for raising and how high they can be raised. If you klick on the button left of the attribute, the attribute will be raised by one. This is not reversible so take care!!
If you don't want to raise anything, just close the window with a right-click.

Some attributes only be raised, if the pet has reached a certain level. The minimumlevel for this and the according cap you can see in the right picture.

leveladvancement: ability points
If your pet hase gathered enough XP, it automatically advances a level. This is announced with a sound, an animation and a big red entry in your journal ("...level increased...").
A Pet, which has experienced a level advancement, gets Ability Points. The amount of these points is determined by random and varies mostly between 1 and 6. However, sometimes it is possible for you to get a much higher amount of ability points. This varies between 8 to 50 points. The rule for this is not known to public unfortunately.

changeable attributes/minimumlevel
Depending on the current level of the pet you can chose what stat of your pet you want to increase. More specific:

minimumlevel
Attributes which can be increased
9
can mate
10
Resistances: AR, FR, CR, PR, ER
20
Damage(maximal, minimal)
30
Armor Rating
<!-- Die unteren drei Zeilen einfach durch copy&paste hier drüber einfügen. Das hier ist ein Kommentar und wird nicht angezeigt ;)
-->
40
Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence

Since the highes maximum level of creatures found in the wild is set to 30, the last three values (Strengh, Dexterity, Intelligence) can not be raised until your pet has reached level 40 via multiple Breeding].

Limitations on training skills and stats
* All Creatures which can be found in the wild have different values in resistances, skills and stats.
* All have the same skill and stat caps. skillcaps are at 100 but can be raised to 120 with pet-powerscrolls. The caps for Stats are at 1000 for Strength and Intelligence and at 500 for Dexterity. The caps for Hits and Mana are also at 1000 but not really. You cannot raise them above 1000 via spending ability points, but you can increase them above limit via the random bonus points from 1 to 3 you get while breeding. So if your parents have both 1000 hitpoints your baby-pet will have 1001 to 1003.
* All Creatures start with different values in wrestling, tactics and resisting spells. Creatures with magic abilities also have the magery skill, poisonous ones have the poisoning skill. Only few creatures start with points in anatomy, evaluating intelligence and meditation (The rune beetle for example starts with values in poisoning, meditaion and evaluating intelligence)
* Tamed Creatures can only train their basic skills and are not capable of learning new skills. A frost spider for example will never be able to learn magery.

The Groundwork
If you want to tame a creature, you should take care, to tame only the ones which have high values in stats and skills (especially Resisting Spells, Magery, Evaluating Intelligence or Poisioning) Pets have a statloss of 10% if tamed and 14% if tamed while paralyzed. In order to find out weather your pet-to-be has the proper stats and skills you need to have the skill animal lore above 100.0

The advantages of trained pets
Stats:

* Increased Strenght/Hitpoints:

The pet will make more damage the stronger it is and with more hitpoints it survives longer in a fight.

* Increased Dexterity/Stamina:

More Dexterity means more Stamina and therefore increased swingspeed of your pet, which means more damage per second.

* Increased Intelligence/Mana:

Only creatures having the magery skill benefit from a high intelligence and mana, since they can cast more spells untill they run out of mana and regenerate their mana faster.

Skills:

*Wrestling - raises chances of hitting the enemy and lower the chances of beeing hit and taking damage.

*Tactics - provides a bonus to the damage dealt to enemies via wrestling attacks.

*Resisting Spells - raises chances of not beeing victim of a curse or weak poison and reduces the amount of time labouring under the effect of a curse like blood oath and curse for example.

*Anatomy - provides a bonus to the damage dealt to enemies via wrestling attacks.

*Poisoning - erhöht Frequenz mit der es einen Gegner vergiftet, ab 99.0 hat es die Chance einen level höher zu vergiften als normal. Die Chance zu vergiften steigt also noch einmal ab 100.0 Poisoning.

*Magery - raises the damage of offensive spells

*Eval Int - provides a bonus to the damage dealt with offensive spells

*Meditation - faster mana regeneration (Pets can only meditate passively)

How to train your pet best
There are 3 simple rules to train your pet best:

*Rule#1: Don't overrate the fighting abilities of your pet, or yourself when healing your pet. The best to do is starting with weak enemies until you know your pet and how it reacts and how much damage you can heal. After that you can try bigger ones.
*Rule#2: Don't you ever underestimate the power of your enemies. You cannot train a dead pet. Even if you can resurrect it if it was bonded, it will lose skillpoints everytime it dies.
*Rule#3: The attributes of your pet will never raise, if you don't use it. I you keep riding your pet, it will never get better stats and skills. Dismount and let it loose on some creatures.

Melee skills (wrestling, tactics, anatomy) and poisoning:
Wrestling and Tactics raise best, when you let your pet fight an equal opponent. The poisioning and anatomy skill raise when everytime when fighting. The skill of the enemy doesn't count here

Magery skills (magery, eval int and meditation):
The best way to train the magery skill of your pet is to let it fight until it has no mana left. Then let the pet regenerate (The pet regenerates mana even if you ride on it or if it is stabled and you are logged out.). However, this is not necessary, if you also want to train your melee fighting skills. Magery will also raise satisfactory if you keep it fighting. All three magic skills can be trained with all creatures. You don't have to let it fight against equally strong opponents. If you want to train especially magery, just look for a fence and cast an energy vortex or an elemental to the other side of the fence and order your pet to attack the summoned. So the pet cannot attack using wrestling and hast to use magery instead. Only drawback of the method is if the pet is able to cast teleport, it will simply teleport over the fence after a while and finish your summoned creater off with wrestling.

Resist skill:
The smaller the difference between your pets resist skill and the magery skill of the attacker is, the greater is the chance of your pet resisting the attack. But also the difficulty of the spell (in which circle it is) does count (the lower the circle, the higher the chance to resist). For training your pet this means you should only train with creatures having an remarkable higher magery skill then your pet has, so you can gain quickly.

Spells which are testing against Resisting spells (Spells you can resist with your skill):

* Magery Spells:
Clumsy, Curse, Feeblemind, Weaken, Mana Drain,
Mana Vampire, Paralyze, Paralyze Field, Poison, Poison Field
* Necromancy Spells:
Blood Oath, Corpse Skin, Mind Rot, Pain Spike

Wrestling & Tactics Table
The following table can help you to decide which monster you want to pick for training your pet's Wrestling & Tactics:

Preconditions: trained pets
You need two trainierte Tiere, a male and a female, and a second Player (or Character on an other account), which must be also a tamer, who is capable of unshrinking one of the pets. Both pets must have a Level of 9 or above

Breeding is a Feature of Vetus Mundus!

The use of it
If you have trained your pet to the max, but it still isn't strong enough for you, you haven't reached the end of the line yet! Now you can mate two pets, with will then sire tow children and inherit their attributes to them.
<!-- Eigentlich gehört das hier überhaupt nicht rein, dass es beschreibt das Tiertraining, nicht das breeden.
Potentials of Breeding
You can raise certain attributes of a pet via training.
Always raisable:
* Hits until 1000
* Stamina until 500
* Mana until 1000

Additionally you can raise these Attributes when reaching the appropriate level:
* From Level 10: Resistances will be unlocked. (raisable up to 75)
* From Level 20: Minimum / Maximum Damage will beunlocked.
* From Level 30: Armor Rating
* From Level 40: Die Stats will be unlocked. (Strength: until 1000, Dexterity: until 250, Intelligence: until 1000)

Once raised values are beeing transferred from the parents to the children.

The Act of Breeding
You look for a friendly player (or use an other tamer of yours on an other account, if you already have a male and a female pet of the same race), who is also a tamer and has a pet of the same race (e.g. Hiryu), but of the opposite sex. Then both have to meet at the Animal Breeder, who is hiding on Ilshenar (just walk through a moongate to Ilshenar/honor and then run to left around the mountain until you reach a second moongate on a small stoneplateau.). One of the Tamers now klicks the Button mate in the XP-Fenster and chooses the pet of his fellow. Naturally both of the pets have to be unshrinked for this.

Now the Breeder decides, depending on his day's form, weather he can accept the pets for breeding or not. The stronger the pet, the more difficult it is for the breeder to mate the pets, and chances are therefore higher that he cannot accept the pets right at the moment. If this is the case, you have to wait another twelve hours until you can try it again.

If the Breeder can mate the pets, he educates the owner of the pet about the modalities:
* Das Züchten dauert 3 Tage
* The mated pets cannot be brought to the breeder again until in 6 days are over.
* The mated pets stay in the stable of the breeder after the 3 days are over and await their fetching through their owner.
* The owner of the mated pet gets a pick up ticket for the baby-pets on which he can look up the exact collection date and how expensive it is.
* The fetching of the babys does cost a variable amount of gold. Breeding strong pets is more expensive than breeding weak ones, for the breeder takes a higher risk and he has to support wife and children after all.

He then attends to the pets and for the owner starts the time of waiting.

Attributes of the babys
The attributes of the babys depend on the attributes of the parents. The value of the babys attribute is the mean of the ones of the parents plus a random value between 1 to 3. (for mathematicians: (((valueMaleParent + valueFemaleParent) / 2) + x )| x={1,2,3})
The only exception here is the attribute armor rating, which seems to be not inheritable and always drops to zero at the baby.
So yo better raise this one only, if you don't want to breed the pet any further.

The maximal level
The maximal level of a pet fits the mean of the effectively reached level of the parents, which, if neede, will be rounded down, plus a random bonus from 1 to 3. Two Hiryus with level 10 and maxlevel 30 will sire pets with maxlevel 11 to 13. Two Hiryus with one at level 13 and the other one at level 24 will sire babys with maxlevel 18 to 20.
<!-- Das Abrunden wurde im letzten Eintrag bestätigt, damit dürfte die Sache erledigt sein

Raising of the maxlevel - State of Research
To ascertain the raising of the maxlevel, all tamers who breed pets are called on to participate in the following table. Please make an entry of the reached level of the parents and the maxlevel of the sired babys. Please do post only once per act of breeding, so to speak on entry for both children and not one for every child. Should it be the case that two children of the same breeding act have a different level, please annotate this here.
Stats (Hitpoints, Strength, Stamina, Dexterity...)
This Value is examined from the mean of the parent's values plus a random bonus from 1 to 3. The mean will always be rounded down so parents with strength 100 and 99 will sire a baby with strength 99.

Skills
The skills of the baby-pets will be created random, as if they are spawning in nature. They are not inherited. If the parents of two cats have 100% Wrestling, Anatomy and Tactics each, the baby-pets will have 0% anyway. This does only apply to skills and not to stats, of course.

Skillcaps
The skillcaps wont be inherited also! So it is wise to save your pet-powerscrolls untill you have finished breeding your pet.

The end of the line
You can mate to pets as often as you want to, and you can mate the baby-pets as often as well. There is only one limit for the maxlevel and that is at level 60. If a pet has reached maxlevel 60, it can be breeded indeed and can also sire babys furthermore, but these pets will also have maxlvl 60.
