Paladin FAQ

Even if there is no real Template for a Paladin here yet, there were a bunch of questions in the Forum that we can sum up here to make it easier.

How do I get Tithing Points?

Look for an Ankh (they are in nearly every bigger City) and donate Gold there.

How many Tithing Points do I get for 1.000 Gold?

Gold - Tithing Point ratio is 1:1. So you will get 1.000 Tithing Points.

Where can I see my Tithing Points?

You can see them in your Chivalry book. Razor as well as UOSteam can also show your Tithing Points in your title bar.

Can I save Tithing Points somehow?

Yes, LRC (Lower Reagent Cost) armor also helps with Chivalry spells. Just keep in mind to have enough Tithing Points so you could theoretically cast the spell without LRC, otherwhise it won't work.

I read "LRC" quite often, but what does that actually mean?

LRC is a short for "Lower Reagent Cost" and it's a property you can have on armor or jewelry. It allows you to cast spells without having to pay the Reagents or Tithing Points Spells usually would cost. If you have 20 LRC you have a 20% chance of not using up Regs, if you have 100 it's 100%.

Do I have to free my hands to cast "Sacred Journey"?

No.

Do you have to choose the Paladin at the character creation or can I manually choose my Skills?

No, you can choose your Skills manually without any drawbacks.

Does a Paladin need Magery too?

No, Chivalry is enough. Check UOGuide for all the Spells.

What is a "Dexxer"? Is the word related to "Dexterity"?

Yes, all classes that are dependant on Dexterity, so mostly Fighters, are called Dexxers.

How do I raise Skills like Chivalry or Bushido?

You raise Chivalry best by casting "Consecrate Weapon", "Divine Fury" and "Enemy of One". LRC Armor is recommended.
Bushido is best raised with "Confidence" and "Evasion".

Where do I find these Skills? I cannot find Chivalry or Bushido on the Skill sheet.

Chivalry and Bushido can be found under the category "Magic" if you didn't move them.

What is a Chivalry Book?

The [[Book of Chivalry:en|Book] is a spell book for Chivalry, similar to the ones you need for Magery or Necromancy.

Are there also books for Bushido and Ninjitsu? If yes, where do I get them?

Yes, they exist. You can get the Ninjitsu, Chivalry and Bushido books at the NPC that also can teach you the first 30 Skillpoints in these Skills. But different than regular spellbooks they are already filled with all the existing spells.

Where do I get these Books exactly again?

There are multiple ways to get them. A few examples:
Book of Chivalry = On the Facet Malas, in Luna. There are some NPCs called "Keeper of Chivalry" who sell them.
Book of Bushido = Look for a NPC Samurai. A female Samurai is found in Luna for example.
Book of Ninjitsu = You can buy that one at a Ninja. You can find one on the Facet Malas in Umbra.

Why can't I use the Skills in these books?

For some Skills you need a minimum Skill of 25 to use the first spells.
To get these points you need to buy them at a corresponding NPC. Not everywhere you can buy the books you can also train the Skill. The places that just got mentioned have the NPCs that also can train you.

If I train Ninjitsu (for example with Backstab), do I get any drawbacks, since I actually want to be a Paladin?

Ninjitsu doesn't influence the Karma of a Hero (except, of course, if you use the Skill in a way that by definition is bad for your Karma.) So using Ninjitsu as a Paladin is not a problem. Many Ninjitsu skills make use of Hiding and Stealth, though, which doesn't fit too well with Paladin Templates. Bushido and/or Chivalry would probably be the better choice for a Paladin.
